Ok, so I am irritated.......We sent in all of our paperwork to USCIS at the beginning of December in order to get approved for two children and to update our I797. So they gave us a very speedy fingerprint appointment so I was very excited. Well it ended up being on December 23rd so since we were going to be out of town we went on December 17th - no problem whatsoever. I mean I almost fell on the floor when Chris just showed up down there and got in. He then called me and said come on. Ok, so all of that out of the way.......yeah well here we are almost into February and no new I797c. So what do I do? Well, impatient me emails them on Tuesday of this week to ask its whereabouts. No problem right? Because they "say" they will email you back within 3 days to answer your question. Yeah right. I believe that today is Friday and no response.....I know so here I am being impatient again. I will give them until Monday, does this sound fair?
I can't remember if I posted what happened last year or not but I would love to share my story so that everyone can understand my frustration with them, so here goes:
Last November (2007) and December 2007 Chris and I got our fingerprints done - Chris had to reschedule because he was out of the state when our original appointment was (November). So at the end of December 2007 we get a notice saying we filled something out wrong. We quickly fixed it and sent what was needed back in. Well, January 2008 rolls around and no I797. So concerned (impatient) me calls them to ask what is taking so long. The lady proceeds to tell me that we were approved on January 11th and that MY mail person MUST have lost the form or we must have moved. Ok, so I take a few breaths and tell her politely that we DID not move and it seems very odd that it would get lost. She says she will send another - ok so no problem right? Well it comes with big blue ink across the front of it saying "Duplicate". Well, that just won't do. After going round and round with the "nice" lady once again and our adoption agency at the time, we finally figure out a solution. Well about a month later, now March, we are sent our ORIGINAL I797c in the mail - no "I'm sorry" attached, no explanation, nothing. Just the form. Well, let me tell you Chris was not a happy camper. After all the hastle the original finally comes and come to find out MY mail person did not loose it AND we did not move! Imagine that!!!!!! Well the poor lady at the USCIS office got quite an earful. I guess she felt really bad and sent us another one with a March approval date on it.
So, you can see my disproval of USCIS starts way earlier than just now :) I will give them until Monday to respond. Fair right?

I understand your frustrations. We, too, had problems with USCIS. It took over three months to get our first approval, and when we switched countries from India to Kaz, we waited and waited and waited for our new I-797. The Atlanta office will not respond to inquiries until after the maximum processing time has passed, and when it had, we contacted them and discovered that they'd lost our records. (It's funny that they didn't lose our check that we sent with the paperwork!) So, nothing was happening while we endured the grueling wait. Anyways, there weren't any apologies made. To top it off, even though they finally sent our new I-797 after we sent copies of what they'd lost (along with the receipt they sent us acknowledging that the original paperwork and money had been received), they failed to notify the Kaz Consulate of our approval (which is basically the point). We discovered this when it was time to bring Roxana home. The consulate is supposed to receive an original, official document and won't accept the original I-797 that is mailed to the parents as proof of eligibility. (Granted, our agency should have checked to make sure this was in place before we were invited to Kaz, but I blame the USCIS.) Luckily, we had prepared two copies of all dossier documents, notarized and apostilled, and had brought the extras (not sent with the dossier) with us, so the Consulate was able to use that and our Kaz adoption paperwork to approve us. We were worried that we'd be stuck in Kaz indefinitely, but we left with a wrote a letter explaining the situation. So, our infamous "Do not open" immigration folder didn't really contain what it was supposed to, but luckily, we weren't denied entry into the US.
I hope you've gotten your problem taken care of and that you encounter no others!!
