We have had an interesting few days, so sorry for not posting for a little while. Let us start with getting the kids. We have had a very smooth transition and the kids are doing great! They are amazed at almost everything. Both of them will call for us constantly, just to make sure we are there. They LOVE bath time and would stay in all day if we would let them. I can’t wait for Grandma’s pool! Aidan was a little scared riding in the car and he kept saying: Nyet mama, finished mama, nyet mama. He did the same coming into the apartment corridor but once inside he did fine! At the grocery store Adler and Aidan both got a little clingy and overwhelmed. However, they are fine now and at the Ramstore tonight they had a blast riding in the “car” cart. They were very loud and everyone was staring. Oh well, most people stare when it is just Chris and I so nothing different now! Of course it could be the fact that our children tell everyone “hello” or “preevyet”. In fact, tonight Aidan said it about 6 times to a man who was sitting down eating at the restaurant we went to. He just kept getting louder and louder until the man answered him back. We found it quite comical.
So onto kidney stones and the hospital…..Chris got very sick yesterday and was having unbearable pain. He finally figured out that it must be kidney stones. We called our translator and coordinator to see if he could get some pain meds. Well…..they decided to call a clinic and the next thing we knew the ambulance (volkswagon station wagon) was here for him. The paramedics thought it was best that he was admitted to the hospital. It was quite a different experience. They were very concerned about his blood pressure (which was elevated due to his pain). He had an EKG, Ultrasound, fluids, and several shots, none of which he knew what they were. Everything turned out fine and he was released this afternoon. He has a total of three stones. The ride to the hospital, the night’s stay, meds, and tests all for about $250. I will have to say that that is a bargain!
Tonight Aidan ran into the bedroom and we heard a loud bang followed by screaming. Poor thing must have ran and fell straight into the night stand. He has a HUGE knot on his head. It is quite scary to look at and he cried for a long time. No worries, we will really be able to show it off tomorrow after he gets a haircut!

Ohhh, poor Chris. That was Joby's biggest fear about staying in Karaganda. Joby is passing one right now but he didn't have one while in Kaz. $250 is a deal, wow it is usually $5000-$6000 every time one of us here has one.
I knew you were going to have fun once the twins could be out & about. I am sure it won't be the last knot Aidan gets on his head. I can't count how many times Kobe has bumped his since we got home!!!!
Wow! Can't believe all you've been going through. Hoping Chris feels better. What an adventure in Kaz! Just wouldn't be right if you didn't have at least 1 crazy thing happen! Sounds like the kids are loving the real world and your loving presence in their lives non stop now. That is such a blessing. Hope Aiden's bump is better and I agree it will be one of many he'll get in the future. I can attest that toddler's heads are hard! Lindsay fell alot at first and still does some. Congratulations on being Mommy & Daddy!
First CONGRATS Mom and Dad!!!! I'm so excited for you!
Second..Chris lived through Greg's fear. I'll be telling Greg today. Greg has prescriptions for pain if he should pass a stone while we are there. I hope Chris feels better soon. Kidney stones are no fun for them (and no fun for us either!!!!)
Sorry to hear Aidan has a bump...get use to it! It will be one of many! :)
Oh my gosh, that sounds awful and a bit scary too! It sounds horrible but thank goodness it wasn't anything that required surgery. I feel bad for Chris.
On the upside, it is great to see Aidan and Adler enjoying themselves (and sleeping!) in the apartment. I love the stories about Aidan's talking. Sorry to hear re: his bump - sounds like you were pretty cool 'new parents' dealing with that.
I'm happy to see your blog update, enjoy your next few days!
What a crazy few days! Congratulations on your gotcha day and it's so great to hear that everybody's doing well (even Chris)
Oh gosh, I'm glad everything worked out ok- hospital visit, bumb on the head and all.
Congratulations on Gotcha day! So very exciting!
What an eventful few days, but you sound so happy. I am so glad for you guys to have reached this point. Now, you have to get those two home. We will be keeping you in our prayers with hopes of a peaceful and quick trip. How does it feel to have them all to yourself now? Congratulations and much love. Janie
Chris you need a beer, or two. We are so excited for you two, what a wonderful experience.
oh my stars... what a crazy few days for you guys... I was beginning to wonder if things were ok...
Chris, So glad you are better....
and CONGRATS to mama and daddy..
awesome!!!
Loved the bath picture.. and so thrilled!!!
Wow - how exciting and how eventful all at once!! Just part of the whole experience, I suppose, that Chris has to go to the hospital. $250 total? Can you imagine? All that would have cost thousands here.
Jessica and Chris, I am SO FAR behind on blogs and must admit, I just had to read your whole in conutry time!! I totally have been out of it and missed the fact that you had gotten to go. I'm so sorry (for me at least!) that I have missed the day by day, but am THRILLED that I have caught up now and see your beautiful, beautiful children. I LOVE their names and they are the most precious! They seem to be just about Maia's age (when is their bday?) They are just awesome and I keep staring at their pictures. I can not WAIT to continue reading MUCH more regularly to see how the rest of the time in Kaz goes, and then how your life at home goes! I just know you're going to have a great transition.
You did say something about everything being new to them... everything you said was/is so true. Maia hated walking in the grass barefoot at first, and new foods were hard at first as well - but she was always willing to at least try everything. Slowly she has added foods to her list, and in time, she has taken some away. (Vegetables, she used to eat any, now she is much more particular.)
Anyhow - I am just so so so so so happy for you all and so sorry I missed the last, what, 45+ days (at least!)
I'm glad this day has FINALLY come for you all, and I just know you are going to be an AWESOME family of 4!!!!!!
Enjoy these last few days/weeks in Kaz. I am SURE you are READY to come home - but I was just looking over pictures from my trip there and was sad tonight that that part is over. (At the time, I could not WAIT to get home.) I am still glad to be home, but now remember the trip fondly, for the most part. :)
Enjoy your gorgeous children - can't wait to hear the next news.
Hugs, Kristen :)
I'm sorry Chris, I've heard that Kidney Stones are the worst pain a person can have, but I had to laugh outloud at the whole image of you getting hauled off in a station wagon ambulance to the mercy of a hospital with no English....it's really awful, but really funny too. I hope you are feeling better and what's going to happen to the 3 stones?! Do you have to pass them?!
Congratulations on your Gotcha Day!
I bet Chris's experience was scary (and I know it was painful), but I am glad he's OK!!
