Day 22

Trying times – Eating lunch? Not so much……We really thought that meal time would not be difficult. We thought that they would take it very seriously. Yeah, well, we were really wrong on this one. We told the caregivers that we would help with lunch since there are so many new kids who do not feed themselves. We also thought it would be a great opportunity to see what meal time was like. Disastrous. That is for us as parents. First off I will have to say that we had them eating in the room where we play, away from the group and normal routine. However, they thought it was hilarious and wanted to throw food, push it away, and play in it. They thought it was even funnier the more one did it. The other one would then feed off the other and getting in trouble was even funnier. Not the way we had planned it out in our heads. Once the caregivers came out to check, it was all business and Adler got in trouble and had to eat with the group in their normal room. She pouted the whole time. Aidan then realized that he better get to eating or he too would lose the comfort of mama and papa during his lunch.

On the other hand, we were able to give them baths again today and they were very good. Not afraid of the water running directly over their head or sitting in a tub of water. We were not sure how baths were given so this was fun to see their routine and now we know what to expect.
Just in case you are wondering – the weather man here in Karaganda is just as wrong here as they are at home. It was a good 10 degrees cooler today than predicted. We actually got cold this morning while playing outside and had to go in an hour earlier than normal. It only got to about 60 today. However, it is suppose to continue to get warmer and warmer over the next 10 days, back to where we were in temps – 85-90 degrees.

I sure hope you guys have a slide close to your house in Georgia because those kids do love the playground. They get cuter and cuter everyday and Adler's boo boo is slowly going away. Keep up the good work Mama & Papa.

You are truly learning the meaning of parenthood - kids don't come with instruction books! Learn as you go.
Enjoy!

You will be able to establish your own feeding routine and rules and they will have to learn you are in charge not the caregivers. It may take some time but don't worry, you'll get the hang of it! Even if it is hard when you get custody of them they will come around. Sometimes kids use feeding and food as a time to test out who is in control. And with the many changes they may do that. Just be loving and consistent! So fun to hear of your parenting stories now!

So precious! What a good Mama and Paps! And I agree with Kim. So far all the kids have known with you is play. So they may have thought it just proper to play with their food with mama and papa. :)
It is so hard to believe it has been 3 weeks. In some ways it seems like it is flying by and in others it seems like you have been there a very long time. For now, though, all you have to focus on is the four of you. Probably the only time in your lives that will ever be. Enjoy! And thank you for sharing. I look forward to your pictures and post each day. praying for you. Janie

so sorry things didn't go as you had planned, but as Kim said it will change!
I know it's fun when things don't go the way our brain says they should have... :-)

I'm so glad you are able to eat and bathe your children in the orphanage. What a wonderful experience for you to know how they do this. We were never shown any rooms or able to eat/bathe/etc. with our children. So much I wish we could have experienced as these are wonderful memories for you and will also help explain why they do certain things once home.

Glad you are enjoying your stay in K!
