At the market. This is a common grill everywhere here. It is a woodfire at one end with a chimney. Makes the meat yummy!
Aidan in high heels - he will love this photo at his wedding some day!
Aidan and Adler's beds. He is number 8 and she is number 9 (second and third from the top).

Seems like the third day may have been a charm – but we won’t hold our breath just yet. Aidan has mastered eating with mama and papa in the “playroom” and Adler is getting close. She finished about half of her meal today and then started playing with her food. When I asked her if she wanted to go back to the group she just nodded and said “da” (yes). It is almost as if it were comforting to be in her familiar environment with all her friends, completely understandable.
We went to the open market again today. We got lots of souvenirs and I bought another plant. I sure am missing all my flowers at home. We think we bought basil seeds also but that is still to be determined once the seeds grow. I will keep you updated, since that is the one herb that is very much missed, especially since the tomatoes are so good and fresh here. So if you are coming to Kazakhstan you must know that dill is on everything. Fine if you like dill, but I do not like it and just about all food is smothered in it. Yuck.
We were invited by one of the caregivers to her house for a traditional Kazakh meal, Five fingers (Steve Morningstar you will appreciate it!) This is horse meat and noodles and supposedly very good. I’m not sure if I am going to eat the meat. For those of you who don’t know me well, I rode horses for over 20 years. I attended college so that I could ride on their equestrian team and I have owned four horses over this period. I’m just not sure I can eat it. The caregiver did say that she would do some beef as well for me. I know, call me a wimp…..but there must be others who feel the same as me. We will keep everyone posted on this as well.

Jessica and Chris, So glad to hear the lunch is going better with you precious ones. And the horse "food" - I completely understand. So, it's not offensive if we don't eat their meat? You'll definitely have to get an answer for me on that one, because I definitely share your food preferences in this case!
I have to tell you that the picture of the beds is very moving. I don't know if you recall the picture at the top of my blog, but it is very similar to the one you posted, except with children in the beds. I've had several people comment on the picture as being very powerful. When you see all those precious little beds lined up in that one room, it just breaks your heart; it kind of "calls you" to move to make a difference. I wonder if there is any way to get a picture of your children asleep in the room with all the other kids at one time. Probably not, but, what a picture to have to show them one day when they are older. And what a picture to share with others when they ask, "So, why are you adopting?". God bless you and your sweet family today. Janie
Hey Chris & Jessica...I feel so close to you guys but yet we are so far away - ha ha. Uralsk is actually farther from Almaty then Kagaganda (i only learned that on the plane) and from the map it appears that we cannot hop a train to come see you, but just know that we are thinking about you and your beautiful babies. Man they are so darn cute! We are doing good too...Murat is slowly attaching which is fine by us. He is a strong, stubborn, loving, and happy boy - and he is VERy ATTACHED to his caregivers.
I also wanted to chime in on your horse situation. Oh my goodness, your eating horse would be like me eating a turtle - and let me tell you - it is NOT going to happen. I completely understand where you are coming from with all that you wrote. You should not eat the horse...and you should not feel bad for not eating it either. Now if you see a turtle sitting on the table, YOU can eat it, but just don't tell me about it...ha ha.
We wish you guys the best! Can't wait to get all our beautiful babies together!
Love,
Temple & Rusty
The pictures are great! Have I mentioned I LOVE their names?! I too am worried about eating horse. I love horses and I can never imagine eating one. Dill? Yuck. Thanks for the warning!! Take care!
Steve here: I can't blame you for not wanting to try the horse meat. It takes some effort to turn off your brain and just think of it as food.
I do highly recommend trying the small round pieces of intestine. Just think of it as squid or octopus tentacles and it'll go down that much easier.
Then again after rereading that statement, I don't think I've convinced anybody to try it. Well, the noodles underneath the meat are scrumptious and very filling. You can always fill up on those.
Sounds like you are still doing well. I agree with you on the horse. I couldn't eat it either!
I couldn't eat the horse meat either! Hope that's not horse meat they cook on the streets there too. Love the pictures!
I laughed outloud as soon as I read the horse meet entree sentence at the very idea of you trying to eat that Jessica!
Is Adler wearing a super cool John Deere shirt in the picture with her Pappa? Awesome!
